Terms & Conditions

These terms set out the basis on which we accept watches for repair and restoration. They are written to be readable rather than dense, and cover the things that matter most in the working relationship between you and our workshop.

1. About these terms

These terms apply to all work carried out by Escapement (90 Mittraphap Road, Nai Muang, Khon Kaen 40000, Thailand) on watches and timepieces brought to us for service, repair, or restoration. By leaving a watch with us or submitting a formal service request, you agree to these terms. If you have a question about anything here before proceeding, please ask — we are happy to explain.

2. Assessments and quotations

Before any work begins, we will provide you with a written assessment of what we observe and a clear quotation for the service we recommend. We will not begin work until you have acknowledged and accepted this quotation.

Where the condition of a movement cannot be fully assessed without disassembly, we will discuss this with you before opening the piece. If the disassembly reveals a different scope of work, we will contact you before proceeding further.

Quotations are valid for 30 days from the date issued. After that period, prices may need to be reviewed if cost factors have changed.

3. Authorisation to proceed

We will ask for your written or verbal confirmation before starting any service. For Museum-Grade Restoration work, we will ask for written confirmation in all cases. No work on a watch proceeds without your clear acknowledgement of the scope and the associated cost.

If you request changes to the agreed scope while work is in progress, we will provide a revised quotation and pause work until you confirm.

4. Parts and materials

Where worn or damaged parts need to be replaced, we will discuss this with you before ordering. We will explain what requires replacement, why, and what options are available in terms of sourcing. For restoration work, we prioritise original or period-appropriate parts where they can be found at reasonable cost.

We do not fit parts of unknown origin or quality. Where a part cannot be sourced to our standard, we will tell you and discuss what this means for the work.

5. Timescales

We will give you an estimated completion timeframe when we accept your watch. These timescales are given in good faith and are based on typical workshop load at the time of acceptance. We cannot commit to fixed deadlines where the condition of the movement, parts availability, or other work in progress makes this impractical.

We will keep you informed if a significant delay arises, and will not complete work under pressure in a way that would compromise the quality of the result.

6. Care of your watch

We treat every watch in our care with the same standard of handling we would apply to our own. Watches are stored securely when not on the bench, and work is carried out in a clean, controlled environment.

We hold insurance for items in our care. If you have a particularly high-value piece, we recommend discussing this with us at the point of drop-off so we can make a note and confirm that coverage is appropriate.

7. Collection and payment

Payment is due on collection of your watch. We will contact you when the work is complete and confirm how you would like to collect or arrange return of the piece. For watches sent to us by post or courier, we will discuss and agree the return arrangement in advance.

We accept payment by bank transfer or cash. Please ask at the time of booking if you need to confirm the available methods.

Watches not collected within 90 days of notification of completion will be stored at the owner's risk. We reserve the right to charge a storage fee after this period, and will make reasonable attempts to contact you before doing so.

8. Uncollected watches

If a watch remains uncollected after 6 months despite reasonable contact attempts, and we have been unable to reach you through any of the details we hold, we reserve the right to make arrangements to recover our costs. We will make every reasonable effort to locate you before taking any such step, and any such action would be taken only as a last resort after documented attempts.

9. Liability

We take considerable care with every watch we handle. In the rare event that loss or damage occurs while a watch is in our workshop, we will be open and honest about what happened and work with you to reach a fair outcome.

We are not liable for pre-existing conditions that were not apparent at the time of acceptance, for damage caused by parts or mechanisms that were at the end of their service life, or for any consequential losses arising from a delay or the outcome of a repair.

Where a watch is left with us for assessment and we agree that no work is required or possible, we will return it in the same condition we received it.

10. Disputes

If you are unhappy with any aspect of the work or the way we have handled your watch, please contact us directly. We would always rather hear about a concern early and have the opportunity to address it than have a situation go unresolved. We aim to respond to any complaint within 5 working days.

These terms are governed by the laws of Thailand.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your watch is the one in effect when work is accepted. We will not apply updated terms retrospectively to work already under way.
